A story about the charity

“Can I do this?” is not a question women ask only at the beginning of their careers.

It can come before applying for a first job, presenting an ambitious idea, leading a team, or returning to the industry after time away.

She Can Do helps women answer that question with skills, support, and people who understand what they are working towards.

Founded in 2019 by Inez Patel, Masetshaba Motshegoa and Kate van Niekerk, the South African non-profit brings women in design together through mentoring, training, and events.

Women at different stages of their careers can learn from one another, ask questions they may not feel comfortable asking elsewhere, and build professional relationships that continue beyond a single event.

After 10 years, we at JP Markets can still remember the people who gave us advice when we needed it, introduced us to the right person, or trusted us with an opportunity. Careers and businesses grow in different ways, yet both depend on people willing to offer guidance and open doors.

This understanding is behind the R10,000 we contributed to She Can Do for our tenth birthday. We want more women in design to have access to the knowledge, connections, and encouragement that can help them answer their next “Can I?”

Because “I can” rarely begins as a solo statement. Often, someone else helps you say it first.
