A story about the charity

Bukosi, a fundraising officer at FoodForward SA, can explain the organisation’s work in one sentence: “FoodForward SA recovers surplus edible food and redistributes it to community organisations across South Africa.”

The sentence is simple. The operation behind it is anything but.

Here, surplus refers to quality, within-date food from farmers, manufacturers and retailers that may otherwise go unused. FoodForward SA steps in, collects it and sends it through a national network of vetted organisations that already know their communities and the people who need help.

It is a carefully coordinated effort involving food suppliers, warehouse teams, drivers, volunteers, and local organisations. Together, they keep food moving across all nine provinces instead of allowing it to go to waste.

The scale is enormous. In the video, Bukosi shares that FoodForward SA supports over 2,200 organisations and helps provide food to as many as 800,000 people across the country.

For JP Markets, hearing about the number of people FoodForward SA reaches made the decision a very easy one.

We included the organisation in our anniversary campaign and contributed R10,000 to its work. FoodForward SA will take it from here, using the network it has built to keep good food moving towards the communities that need it.
